David Row (Portland, 1949), vive e lavora a New York. Allievo di Al Held, si è laureato con lode alla Yale University nel 1972, dove ha conseguito un master nel 1975. Si è poi trasferito a New York, dove è diventato membro di spicco dell’allora giovane generazione di artisti astratti come Peter Halley, Ross Bleckner e Mary Heilmann.
E’ stato premiato con il National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Painting (1987) e l’Isaac N. Maynard Prize for Painting dal National Academy Museum, a New York, nel Maggio del 2008.
Ha esposto in innumerevoli mostre personali e collettive in gallerie di primo piano americane ed internazionali. Docente in numerose istituzioni quali The Cooper Union, Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute, Princeton University, Fordham University, attualmente insegna presso The School of Visual Arts a New York.
I suoi lavori si trovano, tra gli altri, nelle collezioni permanenti del Carnegie Museum of Art di Pittsburgh, del Brooklyn Museum, del Cleveland Museum of Art e il Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego. Il Portland Museum of Art ha da poco acquisito una sua grande opera che sarà posta all’ingresso del museo e il CMCA (Center for Maine Contemporary Art) di Rockland nel 2020 inaugurerà, nel suo nuovo edificio progettato da Toshiko Mori, la prima tappa di una mostra itinerante a cui dedicherà lo spazio espositivo principale ai lavori di David Row.
